Services provided during stay:
Clothing; food; shelter; safety; transportation to and from school; education support; supportive adult role models; study/homework assistance; crisis intervention for youth and families; referrals to community resources; youth support group; supportive programming;
Children appropriate for stay:
Non-violent children awaiting court or placement
Children in protective custody or danger of abuse, neglect, or abandonment
Children unable to stay in the home/community without endangering themselves/others
Children in need of crisis stabilization or behavioral support
Non-violent children who need an alternative to secure detention
Reasons for stay:
Homelessness
Running away
Behavior challenges/out of control
Family disturbances/conflict
Abuse/neglect/abandonment
Placement difficulties
Non-violent behavior disruptions/challenges
Children not appropriate for stay:
Violent/aggressive
Extreme risk of running away
Several/extreme legal charges
Suicidal/Psychiatric/Psychological crisis
Court ordered
Information for Partner Agencies:
Families work with case manager to develop an appropriate length of stay for each child
Crisis shelter services are free to families
Crisis shelter is a voluntary placement and not a lockdown facility
